Milwaukee Wave News Release

MILWAUKEE (April 30, 2009) - Xtreme soccer isn't just for indoors, and this summer the Milwaukee Wave and Chicago Storm take their fierce rivalry to the beach for the two-game Beach Soccer Xperience.

Beach soccer is growing rapidly throughout the world. FIFA sanctions a World Cup every year, and in the U.S. the game is spreading abroad from the hotbeds of southern California and southern Florida. Beach soccer embraces not only the exciting aerial form of the sport, but the sun, fun, fashion and good looks that define a day at the beach.

The first of two games is at noon June 13 at Montrose Beach in Chicago as part of the kickoff party for a pro-am league there. On June 20 at 2 p.m., the teams play a rematch at Milwaukee's Bradford Beach. At both games, the Chicago Storm Chasers dance team performs between periods.

Among the players who could participate are beach soccer national team selections Bayard Elfvin (Chicago Storm, U.S.A.) and Giuliano Oliviero and Marco Terminesi (Milwaukee Wave, Canada).

Beach soccer is played with four field players and a keeper, with three 12-minute periods. Goals are wide, shots are often taken right from the kickoff and scoring is high. Many of the runs and patterns are derived from futsal, which has a great influence on the XSL game.
