Murphy had chosen to go the juco route after missing several games due to injury as a senior in high school at Ben Davis High School, where he lettered three seasons.

The addition of Murphy to the Dorados roster gives them 18 members announced to the 2005 roster, joining Brian Baker (QB), John Bradley (OL/DL), J.R.
