BayHawks Win Home Opener in Thrilling Fashion

Erie, Pennsylvania, Saturday, December 1 - The Erie BayHawks home opener proved to be a thrilling contest. Erie held a one point advantage mid-way through the first quarter and didn't regain the lead until 26.3 ticks remained in the game. Freshly acquired veteran forward Erik Daniels buried a three point shot at the top of the key with the shot clock running down to boost the BayHawks to and 82-80 victory in front of a sold out crowd.

The two teams traded the lead a total of four times in the first quarter, with the Charge finishing the quarter three points ahead. Canton continued to stretch the lead in the second frame, charging ahead by eleven at the half, 49-38.

Canton stretched the lead to 15 early in the third quarter, their largest of the game following two free throws by Michael Eric. The BayHawks started to chip away and were able to cut the deficit to six entering the final frame. Erie was able to cut Canton's lead to three points with four minutes remaining in the game before Canton surged ahead to take a ten point lead with six minutes left. Undeterred, the BayHawks applied tremendous defensive pressure, holding Canton to only two points for the duration of the contest. With 26.3 seconds remaining, Daniels knocked down a three point shot, giving the BayHawks the final edge, 82-80.

Henry Sims led the BayHawks with 19 points. Keith Benson added 13 while D.J. Kennedy and Oscar Bellfield both scored 12 points. Canton's Kyle Gibson led all scorers with 28 points while Eric, Kevin Jones and Antoine Agudio also chipped in with double-figured scoring efforts.
