ERIE -The Erie BayHawks (12-17) could not overcome a 13 point first half deficit, after being outscored 35 - 21 in the second quarter and lost to East Conference leading Iowa Energy (23-6) 101 - 87 at the Tullio Arena.
The Energy was led by Jeff Trapagnier with 25 points, shooting 6 of 9 from three point range. Othyus Jeffers added 19 points and Mark Tyndale came off the bench to chip in 16.
The BayHawks were led by Jackie Manuel with 25 points, despite shooting just 4 of 10 from the free throw stripe. On the night the BayHawks shot a dismal 45% from from the line. Alade Aminu, freshly named to the NBA D-League All- Star game, added 17 points and Mike Gansey knocked down 15.
The BayHawks will start a three game road trip to Iowa with games versus the Energy this Friday, Saturday and next Tuesday. Chris "Red" Hughes will call all of the play by play action of BayHawks basketball with Friday and Saturday's games on WJET 1400 AM and Tuesday, on WFNN 1330 AM.
The BayHawks return home to square off against the Fort Wayne Mad Ants, next Wednesday, February 10 at 7 PM. It's the final Smith's Hot Dogs One Buck Wednesday, with one dollar Smith's hot dogs, beer, popcorn and pop. Tickets start at $5 and are sale now at the Tullio Arena box office.
