BayBears Walk off in Ninth against Tennessee

MOBILE, Ala. - The Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels, walked off with a 7-6 win over the Tennessee Smokies Friday night at Hank Aaron Stadium.

With the game tied 6-6 in the bottom of the ninth, Luis Rengifo led off with a double. Two batters later, Jack Kruger hit a game-winning single to center off Craig Brooks (2-2). Rengifo scored three runs in the game, and Kruger collected his first two Double-A hits.

Jose Rojas got the night started with a grand slam in the first inning to give Mobile (38-32 overall, 1-1 second half) and early lead. It was his seventh home run and second grand slam of the year. However, the Smokies (37-35, 1-1) responded with five runs in the next two frames, including a three-run Jason Vosler homer in the third.

Matt Custred (3-3) earned the win in relief, tossing two scoreless innings to finish the game. He gave up just one hit and struck out three batters.

The BayBears continue the six-game home series against Tennessee Saturday at 7:05 p.m. CDT. Right-handed pitcher Jose Rodriguez (5-7, 5.80 ERA) is scheduled to make the start against righty Keegan Thompson (0-0, -.-- ERA) for the Smokies.
