Mobile BayBears News Release
MONTGOMERY, AL - The BayBears didn't score a run Tuesday, as they were swept in a doubleheader by Montgomery. The doubleheader made up Monday night's rained out game at Riverwalk Stadium.
Greg Smith (3-3) pitched a complete game in the first game, allowing just one run in six innings on an Evan Longoria home run. The longball was Longoria's 16th to lead the Southern League. The BayBears left seven runners on base, and were shut out by Chris Mason (9-3) for six innings. Former BayBear Dale Thayer picked up his 15th save for Montgomery. Thayer is in his first season with the Devil Rays system, after saving 27 games each in 2005 and 2006 with Mobile.
In game two, Montgomery scored three times on five straight singles in the second inning and won 8-0. The Biscuits added four in the bottom of the fifth, with a three-run home run by Patrick Breen highlighting the rally. Offensively, the BayBears had just two hits off starter Derek Feldkamp (2-5), Brian Henderson and Evan Meek.
The BayBears are now 0-2 in the second half, after finishing the first half in third place.
Wednesday the BayBears and Biscuits play the third game of the five game series, with Esmerling Vasquez (4-4) starting for Mobile against Montgomery's expected starter Wade Davis (0-0), a recent call up from Single-A Vero Beach.
