
BayBears Return Home for Final Playoff Push

HUNTSVILLE, AL -- The Mobile BayBears (39-25) split their doubleheader with the Huntsville Stars (41-24) Monday night at Joe Davis Stadium. The BayBears shutout the Stars 8-0 in game one. Game two the BayBears took a brief 2-1 lead but ultimately fell 4-2 in six innings in a rain shortened game. Mobile maintains a two game lead over the Mississippi Braves for first place in the Southern League South Division Standings with five games left in the first half.
RHP Charles Brewer (2-1) was dominate in game one. The BayBears righty held the Stars hitless until the sixth inning. Brewer allowed just the one hit over six innings, walking four and striking out a career-high 13 batters.
Five BayBears recorded multiple hits in game one. Evan Marzilli put Mobile on the bored in the top of the second inning with a RBI single, plating Jon Griffin. In the sixth inning, Sean Jamieson doubled and scored on a throwing error after Tom Belza singled. Jake Lamb tripled, driving in Belza. Dustin Martin capped the sixth inning scoring with a RBI single, driving in Lamb to push the BayBears lead to 4-0.
Mobile posted four more runs in the seventh inning. After back-to-back singles from Gerson Montilla and Jamieson, Belza reach on a single to load the bases. Lamb singled, pushing across another run. Martin and Garret Weber each drove home a run with base hits and the Mobile lead stretched to 8-0 with an Marzilli sacrifice to right.
In game two, the Stars struck first. D'Vontrey Richardson walked and scored on a Greg Hopkins triple. Mobile evened the score and took a 2-1 lead in the top of the fourth on a Montilla two-run homer. The lead was short lived when Huntsville scored three runs in the bottom of the fame. The BayBears came to bat in the top of the seventh down 4-2 but the game was called early to due rain.
The BayBears return to Mobile for the final home series before the All-Star Break when they open a five game home stand with the Pensacola Blue Wahoos Wednesday, June 11, at 7:05 PM CT from Hank Aaron Stadium.
