PEARL, Miss. - The Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels, plated runs in five different frames but left 12 men on base in an 11-5 loss to the Mississippi Braves Tuesday night at Trustmark Park.
Faced with an early 3-0 hole, the BayBears (48-51 overall, 11-20 second half) battled back and cut the deficit to 3-2. Jahmai Jones drew a bases-loaded walk in the second, and Sherman Johnson doubled in a run in the third. Jones finished the game 3-for-3 with a double, two singles, two walks, an RBI, and two runs scored.
However, Mississippi (46-55, 17-14) plated multiple runs in four different innings and pulled away. Tyler Marlette drove in four runs with a three-run homer off Jason Alexander (0-5) in the first and an RBI triple in the third. Tyler Neslony went 4-for-5 with an RBI double and four runs scored.
Despite getting 11 hits in the game, the BayBears went just 3-for-16 with runners in scoring position. Rex Brothers (2-0) earned the win in relief, and Enderson Franco limited the damage in a five-inning save.
With Tuesday's loss, the BayBears have now dropped a franchise-record 12 consecutive games.
