Mobile BayBears News Release
MOBILE, Ala. - The Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels, scored three runs in the first frame but could not hold the lead, falling 7-6 to the Pensacola Blue Wahoos in the series opener Wednesday night at Hank Aaron Stadium.
The BayBears (56-56 overall, 19-25 second half) tallied three runs in the first after a throwing error to open the game. Despite falling behind 6-3 in the top of the sixth, Riley Unroe hit a three-run homer off Seth Varner (7-2) in the bottom half to tie the game.
But T.J. Friedl, who hit a leadoff home run to spark the four-run rally for Pensacola (60-53, 30-15) in the sixth, got on base again with a walk from Dario Beltre (1-1) in the seventh and scored the go-ahead run on a sacrifice fly. Gavin LaValley also helped propel the Blue Wahoos, driving in four runs in the game and hitting a three-clear double in the sixth inning.
Jack Kruger had a multi-hit game for the sixth time in his last seven games, going 2-for-4 with a run scored. Kruger has a multi-hit game in nine of his 10 series with Mobile.
