MOBILE, AL - Minutes after taking a two-run lead in the bottom of the eighth inning, the BayBears allowed a pair of two-run home runs and lost to Montgomery 7-5. It was the fourth straight loss for the BayBears, dropping them to five games behind the Biscuits and Jacksonville Suns, who are both tied for first place in the South Division.

The BayBears led 3-0 in the seventh, when Montgomery scored three times on a Patrick Breen home run, Reid Brignac single and when Brooks Badeaux scored on a ball back to the net off catcher Wilkin Castillo's glove. With the score tied, Emilio Bonifacio hit a two-out, two-run double off former BayBear pitcher Dale Thayer, giving the BayBears a 5-3 lead. In the top of the ninth inning, with Mobile reliever Matt Elliott in the game, Matt Spring's two-run home run tied the game, and Reid Brignac's two-run home run gave Montgomery the 7-5 lead.

The bottom of the ninth inning wasn't without drama, with Fernando Perez making a diving catch in center field to end the game, leaving two BayBears on base.

Esmerling Vasquez had a strong start after a one hour rain delay, pitching six innings, not allowing any runs, and surrendering just four hits.
