Mobile BayBears News Release
Mobile, Ala. â The Mobile BayBears fell to the Huntsville Stars, 5-2, as they committed four errors that led to three unearned runs. Chris Rojas took the loss as he allowed five runs (two earned) on six hits in six and two-thirds innings.
The BayBears scored yet another first inning run as Jon Knott drove in Todd Donovan with a sacrifice fly to give Mobile a 1-0 lead.
Huntsville tied the game in the second as Jake Gautreau had a grounder by Brad Nelson go off of his glove for an error, allowing Brandon Gemoll to score. The Stars took a 2-1 lead in the top of the third with another unearned run. Catcher Kevin Reinking committed a passed ball and Alejandro Machado scampered home.
Mobile tied the game in the bottom of the third. Donovan hit a smash double down the leftfield line that went under Nelson's glove for a two-base error as Donovan raced home.
The Stars broke the tie in the top of seventh. Brandon Gemoll led off with a single and moved to second on a Rojas wild pitch. After a one-out intentional walk to Nelson, Stars pitcher Ryan Miller lined a single off of Rojas' body that rolled into foul territory. Rojas tried to flip the ball to Knott at first but his throw was late. Knott then threw home to try to get Gemoll but his throw went all the way to the backstop. Alejandro Machado followed with a two-run double to left off of reliever Alan Webb to make the score 5-2.
The BayBears had only two base runners in the final three innings as they dropped to 27-30 in the second half with the loss.
The BayBears and Stars will conclude their four-game series Tuesday night at 7:05. Justin Germano (1-3) will start on the mound for Mobile against Huntsville's Ben Hendrickson (6-4).
