
BayBears defeat Stars 5-1

MOBILE, AL- The Mobile BayBears won the first game of the Southern League's second half Monday, defeating the Huntsville Stars 5-1. Sean Thompson (2-6) was the winning pitcher for Mobile, after tossing seven innings without allowing an earned run. Dirk Hayhurst pitched a scoreless eighth and ninth innings, in his first appearance in 2006 with Mobile.
Joey Gomes was 2-for-4 with four RBI?s for Mobile. He had a first inning RBI single, and then a three-run home run in the third inning. The fifth Mobile run came on an RBI single by Brett Dowdy in the sixth inning. After a 27-42 first half, the BayBears have won the first game of the second half, and will play four more games against Huntsville this week at Hank Aaron Stadium.
The BayBears will host four more games Tuesday, the BayBears will send RHP Mike Ekstrom (0-0) to the mound against Huntsville?s Tim Dillard (4-4). All BayBears games can be heard on 1480 AM WABB, Comcast Cable Channel 18, and on the internet via mobilebaybears.com.
