New Bedford - The New Bedford Bay Sox would suffer their first loss of the season against the Valley Blue Sox in a final score of four to one at Paul Walsh Field on Wednesday night. A two-run top of the ninth would put the game out of reach for New Bedford.

Bay Sox batters were unable to answer the Valley Blue Sox starting pitcher. Bryan Goosens (Siena) threw seven complete innings of shutout baseball while striking out seven Bay Sox batters and giving up no walks..

Chris Starcun (AIC) saw the ball well all night at the plate for Valley. The junior first baseman would go 2-3 at the plate, which included a long double off the left field fence and a solo shot in the seventh inning. He would also reach base with a walk.

The top of the lineup contributed significantly for New Bedford. Rowdy Andrews (Eckerd) would go two for three on the night, which included a double in the eighth. Andrews would also go onto score the first Bay Sox run. Tyler Orris (Millersville) continued his hot hitting by going three for four with three singles. Anthony Critelli (Holy Cross), recently named NECBL player of the week, recorded only one hit, but would knock in the first run for with a sacrifice fly in the eighth.

Tonight's First Citizens' Player of the Game is awarded to starting pitcher Charlie Dant (Dayton). Dant was stellar from the right-side in his debut game with the Bay Sox. His night would consist of six strikeouts, scattering only four hits throughout the game, while keeping the Blue Sox to two runs, suffering his first loss of the season.

The Bay Sox will be back in action tomorrow on the road as they will take on the Keane Swampbats. New Bedford will be back at home on Saturday, June 11th in a Southern Divisional game against the Newport Gulls
