Baugh Blanks the Mustangs

Back-to-back nights of phenomenal pitching lifts the SwampDogs to another win in "The Swamp."
Garrett Baugh pitched the game of the season thus far for Fayetteville. He threw a complete game, five-hit shutout with eight strikeouts.
"Honestly, I felt a lot better believe it or not going into the later part of the game," Baugh said. "I felt like I had command of all my pitches tonight. I tried getting ahead of every hitter... and that was the key. I didn't really show my breaking stuff there late in the game and I think that kept them off balance."
Baugh had the lead since the second inning and four of his last six outs were strikeouts. The SwampDogs only had four hits on the evening, but they drew four walks and four hit by pitches to keep the base runners on board all evening long.
The SwampDogs had a 4-0 lead after the fourth inning, but all the runs were unearned against Austin Faulconer due to five Mustang errors.
Middle infielder Ransom LaLonde made his SwampDog debut and he went 1-for-3 with a double and two runs scored. His best play of the night came defensively when he robbed a sharply hit ground ball heading for right field.
Brian Celsi finished the night going 0-for-1 with two runs, an RBI and a stolen base and Kranson added one more RBI for a team-high 16. The Dogs would add three more runs in the eighth to solidify the 7-0 victory at home.
Baugh mentioned after the win that he did not throw that kind of a pitching performance since high school.
"That is one of the greatest feelings I've had in my lifetime," Baugh noted. He listed tonight's start as one of his most memorable college baseball experiences behind winning the Ohio Valley Conference Championship and that "I can't even explain what it was like, I was just at a loss for words" when he won with Tennessee Tech.
With a team ERA approaching 2.50, opponents are well aware of what they are up against and Fayetteville has been showing why they have one of the best pitching staffs in the league.
"The hitters know how good our pitching staff is right now so once we put three or four runs on the board, I think that we'll settle in and build their confidence up the rest of the game," Baugh said.
Fayetteville hits the road tomorrow for an over night trip in Virginia against the Peninsula Pilots and Petersburg Generals.
