Bossier-Shreveport Battle Wings News Release
Lexington, KY- The Bossier-Shreveport BattleWings raised their record to 3-4 after defeating the Kentucky Horsemen 78-64 Saturday night at historic Rupp Arena in front of 3.625 fans in Lexington, Kentucky. The BattleWings fell behind 14-0 early in the 1st quarter as Horsemen QB Jared Lorenzen tossed a 36 yard score to WR John Cooper on the first offensive play of the game and then rushed for a 1 yard touchdown. Wings' WR Buchie Ibeh got the BattleWings on the board with a 11 yard reception with 3:59 remaining in the 1st quarter, but the Horsemen answered back quickly with another John Cooper touchdown to end the 1st quarter with a 21-7 lead.
The second quarter was quite a different story as the BattleWings outscored the Horsemen 30-0, powered by 5 consecutive defensive stops and 4 passing touchdowns from Wings' QB Andrico Hines. Hines hit WR Chavis McCollister on a 6 yard post pattern with 12:25 remaining in the first half to cut the Horsemen lead to 21-14. On the ensuing kickoff, BattleWings' FB Jason Schule tackled William Mulder in the end zone for a safety. The Wings' then quickly marched down the field after the safety kick as QB Hines connected with WR Buchie Ibeh 12 yard scoring pass to give the Wings' a 23-21 lead. The BattleWings scored two more touchdowns (Chavis McCollister and Manwell Talbert) before halftime to take a 37-21 lead into the locker room.
The second half of the game was a back and forth contest as the two teams alternated scoring drives. The BattleWings opened the 3rd quarter with a P.J. Berry 14 yard touchdown reception to give the BattleWings a 44-21 lead, which represented a 37-0 run by the Wings'. The 4th quarter was highlighted by two Jason Schule touchdown runs (20 and 2 yards) which gives him 7 on the season. BattleWings' QB Andrico Hines tied a franchise record with 9 touchdown passes as he connected with WR Buchie Ibeh for 4 touchdowns, Chavis McCollister for 3 touchdowns, and one touchdown pass to P.J Berry and Manwell Talbert each.
The BattleWings will host Southwest division rival Rio Grande Valley this upcoming Friday at the CenturyTel Center.
