Bossier-Shreveport Battle Wings News Release

Hidalgo, TX- The Bossier-Shreveport BattleWings lost to the Rio Grande Valley Dorados 58-49 on Saturday night in Hidalgo, Texas dropping their record to 1-3 in the 2009 season. The BattleWings jumped to a 7-0 lead on the first drive of the game as QB Andrico Hines hit WR Buchie Ibeh for a touchdown. The BattleWings continued to take control of the first half as Hines connected with WR P.J. Berry on a scoring pass and with WR Ibeh for his second touchdown. The Dorados pulled within two points of the BattleWings with seconds remaining in the first half, but the BattleWings scored on a 47 yard pass to Chavis McCollister on a perfectly executed screen pass. The scoring screen pass that ended the first half and gave the Wings' a 28-19 lead was highlighted by a Lou Vega block in which the offensive lineman took out two would-be Dorado tacklers.

The second half was not as kind to the BattleWings as their offense went stagnant and their defense had trouble stopping Rio Grande Valley. The Dorados seemed to score at will in the second half powered by QB Nick Hill's three touchdown passes and two rushing scores. Dorados' WR's Rod Windsor and Bret Smith each had 3 receiving touchdowns on the evening.

The BattleWings will enjoy their first bye week of the season this week and will return to action on May 2nd at the CenturyTel Center against the Arkansas Twisters.
