Charleston, SC. The Charleston Battery takes on the Minnesota Thunder Saturday night at Blackbaud Stadium; kick off is set for 7:30 PM. The game is a re-match of the 2003 USL First Division Championship game; Charleston won that game by a score of three goals to none. Charleston enters the game on the back of a split series last weekend; winning 2-1 at home versus Atlanta on Saturday then dropping a 2-0 decision in Richmond Monday afternoon.

The Minnesota Thunder tied 1-1 with the Puerto Rico Islanders on Thursday night in a game played in Puerto Rico. The Thunder took the lead through veteran forward Johnny Menyongar but the Islanders scored a second half tieing goal to deny Minnesota all three points.

The Thunder wraps up its three-match road-swing on Sunday with a game in Atlanta versus the Silverbacks.

Minnesota enters the game with a record of 1-1-4, 7 points, 10th position in the USL First Division. Charleston is looking for its third win of the season entering the game with a record of 2-5-2, 8 points, 8th position.

Minnesota is led by 12th year Head Coach, Buzz Lagos who was a co-founder of the Thunder in 1990. Lagos steered the team to the 1999 A-League Championship plus five additional Championship game appearances. He was the USL Coach of the Year in 1995 and was inducted into the USL Hall of Fame in 2003.

Charleston Battery defender Alan Woods and forward Jesus Martinez were both named to the USL First Division team of the week following their performances in last weekend's games. Martinez scored the game winning goal versus the Atlanta Silverbacks while Woods has been an ever-present in the side starting all 9 games so far and leading the team in minutes played (776).
