Charleston, SC. The Charleston Battery drew 2-2 with the Minnesota Thunder Saturday Night at Blackbaud Stadium in front of 3,166. The Battery trailed the Thunder after 90 minutes but was awarded a penalty-kick in stoppage-time at the end of the game; forward Ben Hollingsworth converted to earn Charleston a home point.

With the tie Charleston improves to 4-5-4, 8th position in the USL First Division. The Thunder remains in 11th spot with a record of 2-6-5, 11 points.

The Battery opened the scoring in the 9th minute. Hollingsworth received a pass from forward Gavin Glinton twenty-five yards out. He slipped the ball back to Glinton who ran into the box and fired past Minnesota goalkeeper Joe Warren into the bottom left corner.

The Thunder drew level just after half-time. A defensive miscue left forward Leo Gibson in space on the right side of the box. Gibson controlled the ball then lashed a shot past Charleston goalkeeper Keith Wiggans and into the goal.

The Thunder doubled its lead in the 80th minute. Substitute winger Aaron Paye drove a low cross in from the right side. Melvin Tarley ran onto the pass and slotted home neatly from six yards.

With time seemingly running out the Battery was awarded a free-kick on the right side. The ball was played into the box and the referee immediately blew his whistle and signaled a penalty because of a push.

After the protests died down Hollingsworth stepped up to the spot and fired a right-footed kick past Warren into the bottom right-hand corner. Charleston heads to Miami next for a Tuesday night game with Miami FC; kick off is set for 7:30 PM.
