Battery Mourns Loss of Derek Revord

Charleston, SC. The Charleston Battery lost a key member of its staff on Thursday, March 10 with the death of Sales Manager Derek Revord in a car accident in Mt Pleasant. Revord had been with the Charleston Battery since November 2002 and had recently been promoted into his new position. Derek is remembered by the Charleston Battery players, staff and fans whose thoughts are now with his family.

Charleston Battery President, Nigel Cooper,

"Derek was a tremendous asset to the Battery organization. Conscientious, dedicated and passionate about soccer, he will be sorely missed by the rest of the Battery family."

A native of Hanahan, SC, Derek, 25 yrs., was an excellent soccer player, a defender, who played for Hanahan High School and at Newbury College. He still played every weekend in the City of Charleston Recreational men's league, in the Mt Pleasant co-ed league and at the Arena Soccer facility in West Ashley. Derek's love of the sport had translated into a coaching role in recent years and he was coaching teams through the Mt Pleasant Recreation Department.

After consulting with his family the Charleston Battery has decided to honor Derek's memory in the following ways:

The Charleston Battery annual Defender of the Year award, as voted by the Charleston Battery fans, will now be known as the Derek Revord Defender of the Year Award.

Derek Revord will be added to the Charleston Battery roster for the 2005 season, he will be given the jersey number 5.

There will be a moment of silence before each of the Carolina Challenge Cup doubleheader's being played at Blackbaud Stadium, March 19, 22 & 25.
