
Battery Looking For Positive Result Against Impact

Charleston, SC. The Charleston Battery plays the Montreal Impact Wednesday night at Blackbaud Stadium; gates open at 6:30 PM with kick off set for 7:30 PM ($8 - $15, 971-GOAL / www.charlestonbattery.com). The Battery (2-1-2, 8 points) enters the game in a tie for third position in the USL First Division after last Friday's 3-1 win against the Miami FC Blues. The Impact (2-3-0, 6 points) are back in 6th place, their most recent result was a 1-0 road loss to the Minnesota Thunder last Saturday night.
The Battery came from behind to top the Miami FC Blues in a nationally televised game on FOX Soccer Channel last Friday night at Blackbaud Stadium. After conceding an early goal Charleston fought back with two goals from Randi Patterson and one from midfielder Osvaldo Alonso to earn the three points.
Midfielder Mike Richardson was credited with two assists on the night. The game marked the first action in 2008 of veteran midfielder Ian Fuller who came on as a second half substitute.
Wednesday night's game will be Montreal's sixth of the season, all away fixtures. The Impact returns to Montreal next Monday night for the opening of their new soccer-specific stadium Stade Saputo.
In 2007 Charleston split the series with Montreal losing 3-2 at Blackbaud Stadium then defeating the Impact 1-0 in the return fixture in Montreal.
Montreal advanced to the 2007 USL1 playoffs but lost in the first round to the Portland Timbers. Head coach Nick DeSantis has been with the club since its inception in 1993. DeSantis was the club captain from 1993-2003 and led Montreal to the 2004 title in his first year as head coach.
Patterson named USL1 player of the week
Charleston Battery forward Randi Patterson has been named the USL First Division player of the week following his two-goal performance on Friday night versus Miami. Patterson scored the equalizer and the game-winner to lead Charleston to victory in the Battery's first nationally broadcast game on FOX Soccer Channel of 2008.
Originally from Hackensack, NJ, Patterson 5-9. 170 lbs., 23 yrs spent four seasons at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, where he was a two-time Southern Conference Player of the Year and NCSAA All-American selection. He finished his college career with 61 goals and 19 assists. Patterson spent his rookie season with Major League Soccer's New York Red Bulls.
Midfielder Mike Richardson was named to the USL First Division team of the week following his two assists in the game versus Miami.
