Charleston Battery News Release

Charleston SC. The Charleston Battery (3-0) heads to Charlotte Friday night to take on it's A-League Southeast Division rival the Charlotte Eagles(0-3); kick off is set for 7:30 pm (WTMZ 910 AM / www.charlestonbattery.com). Both teams return to Charleston Saturday for the second game of the two-match weekend series. These games are the first of four regular season fixtures between the two clubs; there will be another back-to-back series the weekend of June 14.

Charleston Battery Head Coach, Chris Ramsey,

"This is our first back-to-back of the season and we could not have picked a harder opponent than Charlotte. Their work-rate and willingness to keep going to the end will almost ensure that everyone in our squad will have to play their part to the fullest this weekend."

Charlotte is led by 7th year Head Coach Mark Steffens. Steffens led the Eagles to its second straight postseason appearance in 2002 after guiding the team to a 10-14-4 regular season mark. The Eagles lost on PK's to the Montreal Impact in the first round of the playoffs. Steffens won the D3 Pro League Championship in 2000 with Charlotte earning the Eagles promotion to the A-League.

The Charlotte attack is spearheaded by forward Dustin Swinehart. Swinehart has led the Eagles in scoring for the past four seasons. In 2001 he ranked second in the A-League in goals scored (18), in 2002 he ranked tenth (10).

In 2002 Charleston defeated Charlotte twice home and away then tied twice with the Eagles in the second two-match home-and home series.

Like Charleston, Charlotte was formed in 1993 and is in its 11th season.
