Battery Face D.C. United in Second Match of Challenge Cup

Charleston, SC. The Charleston Battery face Major League Soccer's D.C. United on Wednesday night at Blackbaud Stadium on the second day of the 2014 Carolina Challenge Cup; kick off is set for 7:30 PM. The match versus United is the second game of a doubleheader of MLS action with Seattle Sounders FC taking on the Houston Dynamo in the first game at 5 PM.

Charleston lost 2-1 in its first game of the tournament on Saturday night versus Seattle Sounders FC. Former Battery midfielder Osvaldo Alonso opened the scoring for Seattle in the 21st minute before Charleston's Colin Falvey equalized three minutes later. US men's national team defender Brad Evans converted an 88th minute penalty-kick to lift Seattle to victory.

In the other game played on Saturday D.C. United defeated the Houston Dynamo by a score of two goals to nil. Three time Challenge Cup champions, D.C. United enter the second match day top of the CCC standings.

Former Charleston Battery goalkeeper Andrew Dykstra is a current member of the D.C. United squad. Dykstra spent two seasons with the Battery and was a member of the Battery's 2012 USL PRO Championship winning team.

The 2014 Carolina Challenge Cup concludes on Saturday March 1 with Seattle Sounders vs D.C. United at 5 PM followed by Charleston Battery vs Houston Dynamo at 7:15 PM.
