Bats Stun Bucks 4-2

Laredo Bucks News Release


AUSTIN, Texas – The defending CHL Champion Laredo Bucks carried a 1-0 lead to the third, but were unable to hold on as the Austin Ice Bats rallied for a 4-2 win in front of 4,490 fans at the Bat Cave. The Bucks are winless in a franchise record six consecutive games. Laredo returns home on Saturday night against the Amarillo Gorillas. The Bucks had the only power play chance of the first period, but were unable to mount any pressure. The Ice Bats out shot the Bucks 7-6 in a scoreless first period.

In the second period the Bucks scored the only goal. Forward Darryl Lloyd slipped a shot thru from the point that was stopped, but forward Igor Agarunov slammed in the rebound at 12:50. It was the second of the year for Agarunov.

The Ice Bats wasted no time tying the game early in the third. Forward John McNabb scored 1:09 into the frame. Just 30 seconds later defenseman Arturs Kupaks fired in a slap shot from the top of the right circle for a 2-1 Austin lead. At 3:44 the Bucks gave the puck away in their own end right in front to Ice Bats forward Kris Knoblauch who scored on a backhander to make it 3-1 Austin. At 9:38 forward Mike Olynyk jammed home a rebound to increase the Ice Bats lead to 4-1. Late in the game Bucks defenseman Oriel McHugh fired home a wrist shot for his second of the season at 18:40 to complete the scoring. FINAL SCORE Austin 4, Laredo 2.

Bucks goalie Jeremy Symington allowed four goals on 29 shots and dropped to 1-2-0. Matt Barnes was stellar once again, stopping 32 of 34 shots and improving to 4-2-0. The Bucks were 0-2 on the power play, while Austin was 0-4.
