Keene Swamp Bats News Release

KEENE, N.H. - On another chilly and damp night, the Keene Swamp Bats dropped their third game in a row with a 6-0 loss to the Valley Blue Sox at Alumni Field.

The Blue Sox jumped out to an early 5-0 lead scoring five times in the third inning putting the Swamp Bats in a big early hole.

Bobby Stahel (Southern California) started the scoring for Valley in the third inning with an RBI single scoring Garrett Black (Ohio) who reached base with a one out single. Frank Crinella (Merrimack) then added a second run to Valley's total with an RBI single of his own driving in Angelo La Bruna (Southern California) who reached on a walk. Tre Sikes (Savannah State) finished the scoring for the Blue Sox in the inning with a three-run home run to left center field to make it 5-0.

That was it for Swamp Bats starter Eric Lauer (Kent State) who lasted just three innings giving up five runs, all earned on six hits with one walk on 74 pitches and was tagged with the loss in his NECBL debut. Lauer threw 38 pitches in his final inning of work.

It was a much different story for Blue Sox starter, Nick Lewis (Baylor) who was brilliant in his seven innings of work. Lewis was able to shut down the Swamp Bats giving up no runs on six hits with one walk on eight strikeouts and picked up the win.

The Swamp Bats threatened a couple of times in the ballgame but were unable to score during either threat.

In the seventh inning the Swamp Bats had runners on first and second and nobody out after back to back leadoff singles by Brady Sheetz (Hartford) and Aubrey McCarty (Vanderbilt). Taylor Perez (St. Leo University) grounded into a 5-4 double play reaching on the fielder's choice. Connor Fitzsimons (Central Connecticut State) then struck out to end the Swamp Bat threat.

In the eighth inning Keene had runners on first and second with one out but Harrison Paige (American International) was able to get Zach Lauricella (St. John's) to ground into an inning ending double play.

The Blue Sox were able to add one more run to their total in the eighth inning when newly arrived Josh Graham (Oregon) drove in fellow Pac-12 student athlete Stahel with a two out RBI single to make it 6-0.

The Swamp Bats will try to stop their three-game losing streak tomorrow night in Groton, Conn. to take on the Mystic Schooners at 6:05.
