LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Louisville Bats completed their first three-game sweep since the middle of June by beating the Charlotte Knights, 4-0 on Wednesday night at Louisville Slugger Field.
In the fourth inning, the Bats used three singles to score three runs and take a 3-0 lead. Scott Schebler recorded his first hit of the game, extending his hit-streak to nine games.
With the bases loaded in the fifth, the Bats could only plate one run from a Schebler RBI fielder's choice, extending their lead to 4-0.
Making his fifth appearance for the Bats, left-hander John Lamb (2-2, 6.04) threw six shutout innings in which he gave up two hits and struck out three. This win is Lamb's first since June 1 with the Cincinnati Reds.
In relief of Lamb were righties J.J. Hoover, Drew Hayes, and Kevin Shackelford, who all pitched scoreless outings.
Returning to Louisville Slugger Field for the first time since he was a Bat, lefty David Holmberg (0-2, 4.50) was handed the loss after he pitched six innings, gave up four runs, three unearned, on nine hits.
After tomorrow's day off, the Bats will travel to Durham, N.C. to begin a three-game series with the Bulls. Following Durham, the Bats will complete the six game road trip with a three-game series against the Toledo Mud Hens.
