Bats Bounce Back to Earn Split

St. Cloud River Bats News Release


(St. Cloud, MN) Once again the Bats and the Rochester Honkers split a double header. After falling 7-3 to the Honkers in game one, The Bats responded with a 6-0 shut out in the series finale.

In a spot start, Michael Fagan tossed 5.2 scoreless innings. Fagan continues to add to his team lead in strike outs. The Princeton Tiger punched out nine batters to bring his total to 65 in just 38.2 innings of work.

Jeremy Banks sparked the Bats offensively in the second game. With two hits and and a pair of RBI's, Banks helped the Bats to victory.

The Honkers jumped on the Bats early in game one. Three 1st inning runs propelled Rochester to a 7-3 victory.

Game two began with three scoreless innings from both starting pitchers. However, the Bats broke the tie in the fourth.

Banks hit into a fielder's choice that brought home Kyle Stiner. Two batters later, an error allowed Bryan Haar and Banks to score. This gave the Bats a three run advantage.

The Bats continued to surge in the sixth. Derek Campbell led off with a double. Stiner chased him home on a one abgger.

Later in the inning, C.J. Gillman singled. Up next was Banks, who smashed a double that plated the versatile Gillman, pushing the Bats lead to five.

A final insurance run came home for the Bats in the sixth. J.R. Reynolds led off the frame with a walk. Jordan Alexander busted out of his slump by crushing a double off the left field wall. Reynolds scored and finalized the Bats a 6-0 win.

The Bats maintain their spot in second place in the second half race in the North Division playoff race. They trail first place Alexandria by 2.5 games.

After playing four games in two days, the Bats begin a pivotal three game series with the first place Beetles.

The first game of this series will take place Monday night in St. Cloud. This of course marks another throw back Monday at Joe Faber Field. Fans can purchase GA tickets for their 1997 price of $4 in honor of the Bats 15 years in St. Cloud.
