Basketainment's ABA DVD Mixtape Series Continues at Playoffs

March 24, 2006 - American Basketball Association (ABA) News Release

Rochester, NY. Basketainment's ABA DVD Mixtape Series, Volume 1 will continue production on Saturday at the Great 8 semi-finals, and will culminate with the Championship on Sunday in Rochester. Also featured in this volume will be the debut of the Shooting Starz talent competition, an ABA version of the popular American Idol like reality TV competition, and a feature of the group, Big Hustle.

Basketainment is the creative collaboration between Charlotte Krunk owner Spyder Hughes, his Entertainment VP Al Pizzaro, and multi-talented "mixtapeologist" Isaiah Wallace. Hughes stated, "We wanted to do this for our team but our season ended prematurely before we could get everything lined up. Al introduced me to Isaiah, and when I saw this kids editing and mixing skills, I was blown away. He mixes videotape like a DJ mixes CD's and records with turntables. Incredible!"

The first series in this volume kicked off the final weekend of the season with the host Strong Island Sound versus the Florida Pitbulls, and the Boston Frenzy at the Harlem Strong Dogs. "Unfortunately, despite the wonderful hospitality set forth by the Rochester organization, we missed the J-Mac tribute game that weekend," said a resilient Hughes. "Last minute snafus kept us from capturing a great event, up close and personal. With Isaiah's editing skills though, if we get some footage of the game with the tribute, we would surely be able to package an entertaining DVD, complete with the latest sounds in urban contemporary music, country, rock or whatever your market and fanbase call for. Although we'd rather do the shooting live, we understand that is not always possible due to the sheer amount of games, and our relatively small staff, but we can still do the same thing with any existing teams footage. It is a great tool for branding and gathering sponsors. It can also be sold by the individual ABA teams on their website, creating a new revenue stream and memorabelia for the fans, as we expand operations. We'd like to include Derrick Pearson, who is the voice for the ABA. For now, I will personally handle the narration."
