Brevard County Manatees News Release
Fans, here's some updates as we head down the stretch this week:
Those parents that want to save some serious cash for season tickets for their kids can now stop by the 4th floor at Space Coast Stadium and sign their kids up for the 2007 Brevard County Manatees Baseball Camp. The camp is scheduled for Wednesday, June 6th - Saturday, June 9th next summer and every camper will receive:
- Professional instruction from Brevard County Manatees Players and Coaches
- One (1) Camp T-Shirt
- One (1) Manatees Logo Baseball
- One (1) Kid's Club Membership with Season Ticket for all Manatees home games
- Graduation Certificate
Last season kids received their Kids Club membership card at the camp, this season we've upgraded the card from a 10-game pack to a full season ticket! A 2007 season ticket is valued at $280.
Last season we attempted to stop the camp registration at 125 campers, but some parents were out of town and didn't receive the information until late, lost the forms, etc., and we ultimately had 141 campers, spreading our coaching staff thinner than we wanted it to be. This season we're beginning the registration now and we will stop after 150 campers are registered with no other alibis, excuses, or other factors of not getting your kids signed up on time. For those parents of a 2006 camper, we will begin calling your telephone numbers tomorrow and leaving messages, but it's in your best interest if you're reading this tonight to make your way to the stadium in the next week or two to register your camper(s) because this camp will fill up before Halloween. Guaranteed.
Don't forget, tomorrow night at 6:30 we will have a brief Booster Club Meeting for those that wish to participate. This club will begin sign-ups tomorrow night. We'll have snacks and drinks and some guests from other teams providing insight into their teams' booster clubs.
Just to show you how the Milwaukee Brewers are a cut above your average MLB team, here's what's going on this week at Maryvale (from the Brewers Media Department): The Brewers Rookie Career Development Program begins its fourth season at Milwaukee's Spring Training home in Phoenix, Arizona, and is comprised of 57 of the Brewers youngest and brightest stars. The program is designed to teach Minor League prospects about the Major League lifestyle and features courses in sports nutrition, cultural diversity, media training, banking and finance, public speaking, umpire education, MLB security, community service and the Brewers college scholarship program. Additionally, prospects participate in leadership and teambuilding exercises prior to instructional league workouts and games. The program also includes a culinary course at the Scottsdale Culinary Institute, which will be held on Oct. 18. The culinary course will feature a presentation on healthy cooking and the players will then break into small groups for hands-on cooking lessons taught by chefs enrolled at "Le Cordon Bleu". In addition to the culinary course, an etiquette course will be held for Spanish-speaking players tonight at Razz's restaurant.
And you thought it was all about the game.
Season Ticket Holders, look for your renewal form in the mail this week or by early next week. If you don't receive it next week, call our offices ASAP to confirm your mailing address. We try to be as accurate as possible, but we're human and occasionally one slips by us. We apologize in advance to anybody if we missed you.
This week's big questions:
Right now I'm confused...please explain to me again how the Dodgers aren't the Dodgers anymore...Are the Vero Beach Dodgers moving...What's the dealy-o with the Dodgers?
The Vero Beach Dodgers are owned by the LA Dodgers. The LA Dodgers have moved their High-A Affiliate (the players that composed the Vero Beach Dodgers roster) to California. The Vero Beach Dodgers are simply a name right now and the players that fill out their roster will be supplied by the Tampa Devil Rays. Surely the name will change by next season (Vero Beach Rays, for example), but the LA Dodgers will train at Vero Beach (spring training) and then the Vero Beach Dodgers will move in from the Devil Rays training camp in St Pete. The entire situation is just like the Washington Nationals leaving here and our Brewers moving in. Heck, everybody here found out in short order what a good fit it was with Milwaukee, I think the Vero Beach fans should give it a chance to see what happens. The Tampa Devil Rays don't charge for parking at the Trop and some of that mentality will filter down thru the ranks. Ultimately the Dodgers are moving to Arizona for spring training (with the Cleveland Indians) and the Devil Rays will set up spring training in Port Charlotte and then the Vero Beach (Dodgers/Devil Rays) will play ball in Port Charlotte. Got it?
Orioles, Nationals and now the Dodgers...Why do MLB teams move their Minor League Affiliates?
Geographically, the player travel makes much more sense. For the rovers that travel between teams it makes it much more simple. The Baltimore Orioles, for example, had all of their Minor League Teams within a couple hours of Baltimore in Delmarva (Salisbury, MD), Bowie, MD, Frederick, MD, Aberdeen, MD and Bluefield, WV. The only team that had to travel a bit further was their AAA team in Ottawa and even that team is moving stateside in a year. The Washington Nationals did the exact same thing. They have teams in Columbus, OH (AAA), Harrisburg, PA (AA), Woodbridge, VA (High-A), Hagerstown, MD (Low-A), Burlington, VT (Short-Season A). Last season the Nationals had a AAA team in New Orleans and a Low-A team in Savannah. Now they're both closer to the parent club (Columbus and hag City). The Dodgers High-A team is now very close to the parent club in Los Angeles. Rehab assignments and travel just got easier for the Dodgers. Check out the Brewers affiliates, all but Helena east of the Mississippi and the trout fishing's too good to give up in Helena for Eddie Sedar, their Manager, to leave for anything in the eastern US. At least that's what Eddie says. I think that a go-around with some of the fishing here would change his mind, but that's another fish story.
Can I get a job with the Manatees...I want a job in baseball; where do I sign up?
Do an internship first and find out if you really want a job in baseball. Tarp Crew duty comes fast with little warning and will break your heart. At our level, everybody is involved with sales. We get many offers from people wanting to work here, but this is way outside the 9-to-5 routine. It's fast paced and certainly not for everybody. If you've done some military time, think back to Basic Training or Boot Camp...now subtract an hour of sleep. Yeah, kind of like that without the garbage can flying into the sleeping bay at 4:30 a.m.
Knowledge is Power..so tell me, what's going to be the biggest promotion for 2007?
No idea, but we have a crazy enough staff to make sure it'll be worth your while to participate in it! Look for an expanded treasure hunt that will begin soon. For those that read the 2006 game day Program, you know who you are because you found the clue and responded to it, you'll know about it first. Everybody else will have to pay attention, a lot closer attention. Like the first letters in the six bolded questions...Rock On! It's all about what you're looking for and how fast you read things. Do you breeze thru these email newsletters or do you reread them later when you have a few minutes alone? That will determine if you discover the treasure or not.
Once I sign for season tickets, when will they be delivered?
Once we receive 100% of your payment you will receive your tickets, season ticket holder card and parking pass. Assigned parking will be on a first come, first served basis by those that pay off their season tickets first. Keep in mind that the tickets won't be in our hands until late winter.
Next year's group rates...any changes?
We're revamping a few other details with our group rates, including having bonus outings. Your group sales rep will contact you if you had booked a group outing last season. if you're a new group looking for something inexpensive to do, call (321) 633-9200 x3002 for more information.
Now, make sure that you get your kids signed up for the 2007 Manatees camp and get their season ticket free (limit 150 kids)!
