Richmond Roosters News Release

Richmond, IN - Veteran Roosters pitcher Chad Sosebee was named to Baseball America's 2004 Independent League All-Star Team. Sosebee earned second team honors after completing a record-setting season. The right handed closer finished the season with twelve wins, the most in Richmond Roosters history, and a Frontier League best 2.02 ERA. Chad Sosebee was also named the 2004 Frontier League Pitcher of the Year.

Sosebee, playing in his final season with the Roosters, helped Richmond win twelve out of sixteen games in early August. In addition to pitching, Sosebee often played infield positions. He also hit four home runs in 2004. Sosebee played all nine positions in his final game and pitched the ninth and closed out a 3-0 win over Kalamazoo. The Roosters finished 43-53, fifth place in the Eastern Division. Chad Sosebee became only the third player to have his Roosters jersey number retired. On August 30th, Sosebee's number eleven was raised above the fight field wall at McBride Stadium and will never be worn by future Roosters players.

Baseball America also honored Rockford Riverhawks outfielder Rich Austin. Austin was named to the first team after being selected as the 2004 Frontier League Most Valuable Player. Austin led Rockford to a 58-37 record and the 2004 Frontier League Championship.

The Richmond Roosters are two-time champions of the Frontier League, a twelve team independent professional baseball league which will begin its 13th season in 2005. Season tickets are now available by calling the Roosters Box Office at (765) 935-PLAY.
