WEEKEND RECAP: The Barrie Colts suffered three losses over the weekend but managed to pick up two points....They began their weekend Thursday when they were defeated 2-1 in overtime in Peterborough, and then traveled to Kitchener Friday where the Rangers handed the Colts a 2-0 decision...They closed the weekend off with a tough 4-3 shootout loss at home to the Saginaw Spirit.....The Colts' record is now extended to 19-22-3-3 on the season with 44 points....They occupy fourth place in the Central Division, just a single point behind the Mississauga Majors....In terms of the conference picture, the Colts sit seventh on the Eastern side, one point ahead of the eighth place Peterborough Petes

January 19 vs. SAGINAW: The Barrie Colts (19-22-3-3) suffered a 4-3 shootout loss Saturday night against the Saginaw Spirit at the Barrie Molson Centre....A tough defeat, the Colts led 3-1 and the Spirit got back into the game with a goal at the 12:04 mark, and then the tying goal was scored by Chris Chappell with just 57 seconds left in the third period....Overtime solved nothing, and Jack Combs was the only shooter to score in the shootout.....Cory McGillis led the way for the Colts with two goals (12,13) and one assist, while Michael Hutchinson saw a lot of action and kicked aside 53 of the 56 shots that he faced through 65 minutes.....Tomas Marcinko (14) scored Barrie's other goal, the one that made the game 3-1 at 9:45 of the third period.....Tomas Marcinko also added one assist to his goal, while Jaroslav Kruzik and Matt Stanisz also chipped in with assists

January 18 @ KITCHENER: The Barrie Colts kept themselves in the hockey game but a Rangers goal in the third made it 2-0 to solidify a 2-0 Kitchener Rangers victory against the Barrie Colts Friday night at the Memorial Auditorium in Kitchener....The victory for the Rangers evens the season series at one win apiece, as both teams have gained a victory in their respective arenas....The Colts went into tonight's game expecting a difficult contest, and had to fend off a Rangers squad that fired 51 shots their way......Second year OHL goaltender and newcomer to the Colts Peter Di Salvo was tested frequently and was up to the task as he put forth an outstanding effort in goal with 49 saves....He was named the first star of the hockey game for his efforts

January 17 @ PETERBOROUGH: The Barrie Colts picked up a point Thursday night but came up on the short end of a 2-1 overtime decision while visiting the Petes in Peterborough....The loss extends Barrie's record to 19-21-3-2 on the season with 43 points, two ahead of the Mississauga Majors for third place in the Central Division....Stefan Della Rovere (7) got the Colts on the board to open up a 1-0 lead at 9:27 of the first period, and then they couldn't get anything else by Petes goaltender Jason Missiaen, who made 35 saves throughout the hockey game....Newcomers Dalton Prout and Ryan Berard assisted on the Della Rovere goal, and goaltender Michael Hutchinson made 21 saves in goal on the Colts side.....The Petes tied the game 1-1 on a Zach Bogosian goal at 16:44 of the second, and then John Armstrong provided the overtime heroics just 35 seconds into the extra frame....The Colts went 0-for-2 with the man-advantage, while the Petes capitalized once on Bogosian's goal to go 1-for-6

WHAT'S ON TAP: The Colts have a fairly light weekend in terms of games to play as they will travel to Erie Friday night (7:30 p.m.) to face the Otters (10-32-2-1), and then swing back home Saturday where they will host the Brampton Battalion (27-16-1-2) at the Barrie Molson Centre (7:30 p.m.).....Friday's game represents the first of two meetings this season between the Colts and Otters, as Erie will travel to Barrie for a January 31st meeting.....The Colts play the Battalion a total of six times this season, and have posted a 2-1 record thus far....The Battalion scored a 4-3 shootout decision in their last meeting January 13, a win the put an end to a remarkable streak where the Colts defeated the Battalion in 16 straight contests dating back all the way to the 2006 post-season.....Brampton currently leads the Central Division with 57 points, holding a comfortable eight point cushion on the next closest team, the Niagara Ice Dogs.....The Colts defeated the Battalion 6-2 in Brampton and 4-3 at home in a shootout in their other meetings this season

ROSTER UPDATE: Forwards Colton Kennedy and Daniel Michalsky continue to be listed as week-to-week on the injury list.....Kennedy broke his thumb while a member of the Sarnia Sting, and is expected to start skating in the next few weeks, while Michalsky injured his elbow in late December and hasn't played since the team returned back from the Christmas holidays

PRACTICE SCHEDULE: The Colts practice this week on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at the Molson Centre (3:15 - 4:45) in preparation for games Friday in Erie and Saturday at home to Brampton

SPECIAL TEAMS OUTLOOK: Barrie's powerplay is currently 16th overall in the OHL with an efficiency rate of 17.2% with 46 goals on 268 man-advantage opportunities....On the other side, the penalty-kill ranks tenth overall at 81.8% having killed off 216 of the 264 shorthanded situations they have faced

GOALS FOR AND AGAINST: The Colts have scored 131 goals and have allowed 158, placing them in a tie for 17th and 14th respectively throughout the OHL in these categories

UP-AND-COMING GOALTENDING TANDEM: Both Colts goaltenders, 17-year old Michael Hutchinson and 17-year old Peter Di Salvo have been tested with a lot of shots of late and have been up to the task.....On Saturday, Hutchinson faced 55 and turned away 52 of them in a 4-3 shootout loss to the Saginaw Spirit....The previous evening in Kitchener, Di Salvo was the star of the game as he turned away 49 of the 51 shots that he faced.....Hutchinson has a .909 save percentage and Di Salvo .910 so far this season
