Jacksonville Barracudas News Release

The Jacksonville Barracudas have announced that they are teaming up with the Catholic Charities Bureau of Jacksonville to kick off a food drive to benefit families in crisis in Jacksonville.

Friday night's game against the Huntsville Havoc will be the kickoff event for the food drive, which will culminate during Catholic Schools Week the last week of January. Catholic Charities and the Barracudas are asking their fans to bring instant potatoes, beef stew, or toothpaste to Friday night's Faith and Family Night, or to bring those items to the Barracudas offices through the end of January. This food drive will benefit Catholic Charities' food pantry, located here in Jacksonville, FL.

The items in the pantry are given to families in extreme financial crisis, such as Hurricane Katrina victims living in Jacksonville.

Catholic Charities welcomes anyone in need, regardless of race or religion. 90% of their clients are not Catholic, and from July to November of 2005, provided assistance to 1, 387 through their food pantry, or 12, 483 meals. They rely heavily on donations and volunteers to stock and man the food pantry. The Barracudas are excited for the opportunity to yet again reach out to those in the Jacksonville community in need.

The Barracudas are in action tonight against the Fayetteville FireAntz, and again Friday against the Huntsville Havoc. It is another "Throw-Em Back Thursday", as draft beer will be 2-for-1 in the first period, and 50% off in the second, and the deal can be purchased behind section 108, and in the Arena Club.

Friday night is "Faith and Family Night", and groups are encouraged to book their tickets through the Barracudas office (904-367-1423), or arrive to the game early, due to the enormous response from faith-based groups throughout Jacksonville. The first 1,500 fans will receive thundersticks. Be sure not to miss this exciting event! All games begin at 7:05 pm, and are played at the Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena.
