Pensacola Barracudas News Release

Pensacola, FL—The Pensacola Barracudas coaching staff knows the team that stands still gets passed by everyone else. Following a week off from action the Barracudas have added some new faces to the roster to make sure they’re the ones doing the passing heading into Saturday’s home opener with Birmingham. Pensacola has been assigned OL/DL Kevin Sluder, a former Escambia High standout who went on to star at defensive tackle at Mississippi State. Along with Sluder, the Barracudas have also been assigned veteran WR/LB Greg Harris, who spent the last two seasons with the Carolina Cobras of the Arena Football League.

Kevin Sluder is a 6’4”, 245 pound OL/DL who prepped at Escambia High and was named the Pensacola News Journal Northwest Florida Defensive Player of the Year in 1994. Sluder lettered four years at Mississippi State as a defensive tackle under the tutelage of Jackie Sherrill. Sluder started 28 games as a Bulldog playing in all 47 he was eligible for on one of the top defenses in the nation under defensive genius Joe Lee Dunn at MSU. He racked up 195 tackles, 23 tackles for loss, and two sacks, recovering five fumbles, and knocking down eight passes during his career. Sluder will be a welcomed addition to the Barracudas OL/DL on both sides of the ball.

Greg Harris is a 6’2”, 220 pound WR/LB who comes to Pensacola from the Carolina Cobras of the AFL. Harris hauled in seven receptions for 70 yards in 2001 with Carolina, and added 22 tackles, two sacks and a pass defended for the Cobras. He was a four year letterman at the University of North Carolina from 1996-99 where he played wide receiver for the Tarheels. Harris is originally from Mebane, North Carolina.

The Barracudas open up the home schedule this weekend, Saturday, April 20 at 7 p.m. against the Birmingham Steeldogs in a key National Conference South Division matchup.

The game will be broadcast on WCOA 1370 AM beginning with a pregame show at 6:45. The first 500 fans in the end zones receive free Hill Kelly Dodge cheer stix, and the first 2,000 through the door get free Cox Communications rally towels.
