Pensacola Barracudas News Release

PENSACOLA, Fla. – Game MVP Joseph Koroma caught only five passes, but three went for touchdown including the game winner as Pensacola defeated Jacksonville 49-40 here Friday before a crowd of 2,679.

Pensacola did not lead in the game until the third quarter. After trailing 20-19 at halftime, the Barracudas scored on the first possession of the second half when Charlie Peterson found Koroma with a 16-yard touchdown to put Pensacola ahead. Later in the quarter, Peterson hit Jack Walker with a 49-yard score to push the lead to 33-20.

But a pair of Tomcats touchdowns and a safety put Jacksonville back in front in the fourth quarter 34-33.

Pensacola erupted for a safety and a pair of touchdowns later in the period to take 49-34 lead. The final touchdown, which turned out to be the difference in the game, came when Peterson found Koroma on a crossing route and the receiver reached back, tapped the ball away from a defender, found the ball in mid-air, then grabbed it just before running into the boards in the end zone.

Jacksonville scored a touchdown with ten seconds left, but Pensacola recovered the ensuing onsides kick to seal the game.

Ironman of the Game, Jasper Pendergrass, finished the night with 32 yards rushing and 3.5 tackles. ADT Defensive Player of the Game, Kenny Hill, had 5.5 tackles, three pass break ups and a fumble recovery.

Jacksonville's Lawrence Pullen paced the Tomcats with eight catches for 134 yards and four touchdowns.

Jacksonville falls to 5-7, Pensacola improves to 6-6.
