Pensacola Barracudas News Release
PENSACOLA, Fla. â The Pensacola Barracudas signed two players who will be active for Saturday's game against Macon at the Pensacola Civic Center.
Defensive specialist Jimmy Gaston and quarterback Kevin Nawracaj are the newest additions to the Barracudas' roster.
Gaston is seeing his first arena action. He played defensive back at West Texas A&M in Amarillo, Texas and had four interceptions his senior season. The Buffaloes are members of the Lone Star Conference in NCAA Division II. Gaston led all of Division II in kickoff returns his junior year with a 35.6 yard average. He also starred at tailback at Navarro (Texas) Junior College where he played with Jerrian James. In high school he was an all-state pick and the city's offensive player of the year his senior season at MacArthur High in Dallas.
Nawracaj (pronounced Nah-rocky), signed a free agent contract with the San Francisco 49ers in 2001 and was sent to Berlin in NFL Europe. He never saw action with the Thunder due to an injury to a bicep tendon. This season, he had been with the Toronto Phantoms of the Arena Football League and he also has indoor experience with the Indoor Professional League's Louisiana Rangers.
He was a record-setting player at Central Arkansas, a member of Division II's Gulf South Conference.
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m., Saturday. Fans who bring their local cable bill can buy a $9 ticket for half price.
