
Barons Parent Club Picks Seven Players at 2012 NHL Entry Draft

Oklahoma City - The Edmonton Oilers, parent club of the Oklahoma City Barons, selected seven players at the 2012 NHL Entry Draft held at the Consol Energy Center in Pittsburgh, Penn. The Oilers selected five forwards and two defensemen in the draft.
For the third consecutive season, the Oilers held the #1 overall selection in the draft. They chose the top-ranked player in the draft, Nail Yakupov. Yakupov, a 5-11, 190-pounder from Nizhnekamsk, Russia played last season with the Sarnia Sting of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). With the Sting, he scored 69 points (31-38-69) and his 31 goals led the team. In two seasons with Sarnia, he amassed 170 points (80-90-170) in 107 games.
The Oilers held selections in the second, third, fourth, fifth and sixth rounds. With their 2nd round selection, they chose forward Mitch Moroz who played his junior hockey with the Edmonton Oil Kings of the Western Hockey League. With the Oil Kings last season, the 6-2, 208-pound Moroz recorded 25 points (16-9-25) and 131 penalty minutes in 66 games.
Edmonton had two choices in the 3rd round. With their first selection in Round 3, the Oilers chose left wing Jujhar Khaira. In 112 games over the last two seasons, the 6-3, 195-pounder scored 121 points (39-82-121) with the Prince George Spruce Kings of the British Columbia Junior Hockey League. With their second selection in Round 4, the Oilers chose the 6-3, 200-pound Daniil Zharkov. Last season, Zharkov scored 36 points (23-13-36) in 50 games with the Belleville Bulls of the OHL.
The Oilers Round 4 selection was defenseman Erik Gustafsson. The 6-0, 176-pounder played last season with Djurgardens in the Swedish Elite League. In 41 games with Djurgardens, he recorded seven points (4-3-7). In Round 5, the Oilers chose defenseman Joey Laleggia from the University of Denver. The 5-9, 182-pounder recorded 38 points (11-27-38) in 43 games with the Pioneers last season. Edmonton closed out their selections in Round 6 by choosing John McCarron. The 6-3, 215-pounder played last season at Cornell University. With the Big Red, he recorded 19 points (8-11-19) in 35 games.
