Barons fall to USA-18, 2-1

Ann Arbor, MI (January 25th, 2005)-The Cleveland Barons squared off tonight against the best 18 year old players in the USA. The USA-18 squad, who have beaten teams like Notre Dame, Brown and a recent two game sweep of Canisius, faces an always tough opponent in the Barons. Their previous meeting ended in 4-3 OT win for the USA, this game was no different as the USA-18 defeated Cleveland 2-1.

The fans at "The Cube" were treated to a goaltending dual between Cleveland's Bobby Jarosz (Crystal Lake, IL) and the USA-18 Billy Blasé. The Barons jumped out to 1-0 lead on a goal by Kurt Kivisto (Brighton, MI), his 7th of the year with the assist going to Steve Silver (Brighton, MI) and Pat Schafer (Hilliard, OH). The lead would hold up until the middle of the 2nd period when the USA-18's Nathan Gerbe tied it up at one. The score remained tied untl the middle of the third period when the USA-18 Peter Mueller and Zach MacVoy were alone on the goalie, and Mueller scored giving the USA-18 the lead and eventually the win. Cleveland goalie Bobby Jarosz had 24 saves in the game while USA-18 goalie Billy Blasé had 15 saves. The Barons fall to 15-19-3, fifth place in the NAHL North Division.

The Barons next action will be on Saturday, January 29th 4PM and Sunday 3:30PM against the Soo Kewadin Indians at the IceLand USA Arena in Strongsville,OH. This will begin a stretch where the barons will face the Indians 7 out of the next 9 games. The Indians are 10 pts ahead in second place in the North Division. This will have a definite outcome for the playoff future of both teams.
