Birmingham Barons News Release
Birmingham, AL - The Birmingham Barons and the City of Birmingham have announced gameday parking details for the 2013 season at Regions Field. In partnership with Children's of Alabama, the University of Alabama at Birmingham and Intelligent Parking Systems, approximately 3,000 individual parking spaces have been secured within a five-minute walk of Regions Field. The amount of secured spots per person will be higher than the team had at Regions Park in Hoover (capacity - 10,800), based on the smaller capacity of Regions Field (8,500).
Following an extensive study of the downtown area, the Barons reached an agreement with Children's Hospital for the use of three surface lots within a two-block radius of the new downtown Birmingham ballpark. An agreement with UAB has secured an additional surface lot and a parking deck within five minutes of the ballpark. The deck, located between 18th and 19th St. on 4th Avenue, along with all the surface lots will be open to the public on game days, based on availability. Barons fans will also have access to the Barber's parking lot on 1st Avenue North as well as the parking lots at Ted's Cafeteria and Masco Fabrics on 12th street. Street parking spaces and other public parking locations will be accessible within two blocks of the ballpark. The secured lots will bring the total number of available parking spaces to approximately 3,000 within a five-minute walk from the ballpark.
"The Barons are excited to partner with Children's Hospital, UAB and Intelligent Parking Systems on this venture that will provide safe and convenient parking for all fans attending games at Regions Field," said Barons owner Don Logan. "All parties involved have worked diligently to ensure that our gameday parking plan is secure and convenient for everyone."
Intelligent Parking Systems will have 15 six-passenger carts running on a continuous loop between these lots and Regions Field during every home game, providing fans with efficient transportation before and after each game.
"Intelligent Parking Systems is excited to partner with the Birmingham Barons in this venture and proud to provide safe and convenient gameday transportation for fans throughout the 2013 season," said IPS President David Cochran Jr.
"Children's of Alabama is excited to welcome The Birmingham Barons to the midtown district," said Mike Warren, CEO of Children's of Alabama. "We have been pleased with the positive development in the area spurred by Railroad Park, local small businesses, and long-term commitment from those of us providing medical care. This is another good thing for the further development of the area and we look forward to the continued partnership with our new neighbor."
Birmingham Police Department officers will be stationed along all routes leading from Regions Field to the parking areas listed. Additionally, the streets surrounding Regions Field will be patrolled on game nights throughout the season.
"The City of Birmingham continues to work to provide the best overall baseball experience at the new Regions Field," said Mayor William Bell. "We look forward to the first pitch and a sell out crowd.
Fans will be able to check the Barons Facebook page, Twitter and Barons.com for daily parking updates throughout the season.
The 2013 Birmingham Barons will play their home opener at Regions Field on Wednesday, April 10th against the Mississippi Braves, Double-A affiliate of the Atlanta Braves.
