Bridgeport Bluefish News Release
Lancaster, PA-- The Bridgeport Bluefish (7-5) were defeated by the Lancaster Barnstormers (6-6) 4-3 at Clipper Magazine Stadium on Tuesday night to even up the four-game series at a victory apiece. Lancaster trailed 3-1 moving to the bottom half of the ninth inning, but scored three unanswered runs to win the contest and hand the Bluefish their first walk-off loss in 2017.
Bridgeport Starting Pitcher Tyler Badamo and Lancaster Starting Pitcher Brad Bergesen were matching zeroes as the game moved into the middle innings, but with one out and the bases empty in the top of the sixth, Yefry Reyes belted a solo home run to right off Bergesen, his first in a Bluefish uniform, to give the visitors a 1-0 advantage. Luis Hernandez followed with a solo blast to right center, and just like that Bridgeport was ahead 2-0. The 'Fish would make it 3-0 in their favor in the top of the seventh on back-to-back errors committed by the Barnstormers infield, and things were looking good for Bridgeport.
In the bottom of the eighth, Lancaster would cut the deficit to 3-1 on a two-out, run-scoring single by Caleb Gindl, plating Darian Sandford after he singled right in front of Gindl and advanced to second with his Atlantic League leading tenth stolen base. Danny Burawa would limit the damage right there as the 'Fish were up 3-1 moving to the bottom half of the ninth inning. Manny Delcarmen looked to shut the door, but was greeted rudely when Sean Halton would shrink the lead to 3-2 with an opposite-field home run to right to lead off the rally. Vladimir Frias singled home Blake Gailen with two men out to even up the game at three. Frias then stole second base, and scored the winning run when Sean Burroughs made a high throw to Delcarmen covering first base on a ground ball hit by Anderson De la Rosa, as Lancaster came away with the dramatic 4-3 walk-off victory, sending the Barnstormers fans home with smiles on their faces.
Badamo collected a no-decision, firing six scoreless innings, allowing just three hits and striking out five. Bergesen also did not factor in the game's final outcome, surrendering two runs on four hits in six innings pitched, striking out five. Anthony Carter (1-0) earned the win out of the bullpen, while Delcarmen (0-1) was tagged with the loss. Six different Bluefish layers each tallied one hit in the defeat.
