Barnes' three-run home run wins it for Patriots in 10th inning

Bridgewater, NJ - First baseman Larry Barnes' three-run home run in the bottom of the tenth inning gave the Somerset Patriots a 5-2 victory over the Road Warriors before 6,566 fans at Commerce Bank Ballpark on Wednesday afternoon.

With two outs and the game tied 2-2 in the bottom of the tenth inning, center fielder Mike Lockwood was hit by a pitch to reach first base. Shortstop Kevin Nicholson followed with a single to center to put runners on the corners for Barnes' three-run home run (2) to win the game.

The home run was Barnes' second game-winning hit of the season for Somerset and extended his hitting streak to nine straight games.

Somerset took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning. Left fielder Jim Burt drew a walk, stole second base, and scored on an RBI single by second baseman George Sandel.

The Road Warriors took a 2-1 lead in the top of the fifth inning. Catcher Sandy Aracena led off the inning with a solo home run (1) to left center field. Second baseman Jackson Carrion reached on an error, advanced on a sacrifice bunt, and then scored on two errors on the same play.

The Patriots tied the game in the bottom of the sixth inning on a solo home run by right fielder Ryan Radmanovich (1) to make the score 2-2.

Patriots reliever Jason Olson (3-1) picked up the win with two scoreless innings pitched. Road Warriors reliever Melvin Pizarro (0-1) suffered the loss, allowing three earned runs on two hits in 1.2 innings pitched.

The 2006 Somerset Patriots Season presented by Ford will continue at home on Thursday, May 11th with a 7:05 pm against the Road Warriors. The game features Renaissance Night at the ballpark.
