Mississippi RiverKings News Release
SOUTHAVEN, MS --- The Central Hockey League announced today that RiverKings center Travis Banga (Bunga) has been named the Oakley CHL Player of the Week. Banga scored three goals and had five assists in three games last week. This is the third time that he has been named the player of the week in his career, earning the distinction once in each of his first two seasons.
To start out last week, the High River, Alberta native had a goal and an assist in a 4-2 loss at Bossier-Shreveport on Tuesday. Then, in the big weekend series in Youngstown, Banga helped the RiverKings expand their lead over the Steelhounds to seven points in the division standings. In the first game on Friday, he clinched the game in the shootout to go with an assist earlier in the game. On Saturday, the third year pro scored a goal and assisted on three, including Ryan Campbell's game winner in the third period.
For the season, Banga leads the team with 17 goals and 36 points. He is also sixth and seventh in the CHL in those categories, respectively. He has been exceptionally productive the last 12 games. He has registered at least a point in 11 of those games, has eight goals and 12 assists for a total of 20 points in that span, and has a four game goal streak.
Banga and the first place RiverKings will conclude a string of seven straight road games with contests this weekend at Oklahoma City on Friday and Tulsa on Saturday. The team then returns home for three straight beginning on Sunday, January 7 versus the Corpus Christi Rayz at 5:05. That game will be followed by a post game skate with RiverKings players.
