Aiken Foxhounds News Release

AIKEN , S.C. - A rain delay made for another long night for the Aiken Foxhounds and the South Georgia Peanuts at Roberto Hernandez Stadium. Unlike last night, the host Foxhounds (14-7) earned the victory as Ben Bando hit a two-RBI game-winning hit in the bottom of the eighth as the Foxhounds rallied past visiting South Georgia (14-7) 6-5 in a wild game Tuesday night.

Aiken starter Anthony Telford, making his first start of the season, allowed two runs in the first inning on three hits. After the top of the first, neither of the starters allowed a run until the fourth.

South Georgia plated a lone run in the top of the fourth when Jon Zeringue drilled a solo home run for a 3-0 lead. Aiken got on the board in the bottom of the frame when Bradley Key plated Brian Conradi with a sacrifice fly.

The Foxhounds tied the game in the bottom of the fifth on a two-run single off Conradi's bat. Both runs were unearned as an error by Mike Caruso led to a close play at first base and the subsequent ejection of Peanuts first baseman Brandon Woolard.

After a rain delay of just over an hour, Aiken reclaimed the lead in the bottom of the sixth. Joe Cuttone led off with a double and moved to third on a groundout. After an intentional walk to Kelly Hunt, a double steal attempt led to Hunt being thrown out and Cuttone sliding in safely at home.

In the top of the eighth, Chris Demons reached on a hit by pitch against A.J. Montano. After two productive outs moved Demons to third, South Georgia manager was thrown out of the game for vehemently arguing balls and strikes. The next pitch after the ejection was drilled for an RBI single to center by Caruso. Steve Garrabrants followed a Caruso stolen base with a single to put the Peanuts ahead 5-4.

The stage was set for Bando's game-winner, as singles by Cuttone and Key and a walk to Kelly Hunt loaded the bases against Jason Blanton (1-2). Bando then ripped a single to left, easily plating Cuttone before Key slid in right ahead of the tag at home.

Steve Dunham struck out the side in the ninth for his first save of the season.

Cuttone was 4-for-4 with two runs scored while Conradi and Bando each drove in a pair.

The Foxhounds and the Peanuts will conclude their series on Wednesday night at 7:05 PM.
