Quad Cities River Bandits News Release

Every summer, countless youngsters visit Modern Woodmen Park and dream of someday wearing a River Bandits uniform on their way to Major League stardom. Some lucky little leaguers even get to race out of the corn alongside the players during pre-game introductions as part of the River Bandits "Field of Dreams" program.

This weekend, Modern Woodmen Park will be more then just a distant dream for these youngsters. On Saturday, February 21, little leaguers from throughout Davenport will visit the ballpark to register for their upcoming season from 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.

"The Modern Woodmen Park experience is all about kids having fun, with baseball and summertime as the perfect backdrop," said team owner Dave Heller. "So many young kids dream of playing professional baseball when they grow up. We think it's a great fit to incorporate Modern Woodmen Park into the little league experience and we fully support the little league program in the Quad Cities community."

This year's change in registration venue will go a long way towards streamlining the process, providing one central location for all of Davenport's little leaguers regardless of level or age.

"Little League baseball is an important program for kids, adults and the community as a whole," said River Bandits Assistant General Manager Stefanie Brown. "As a former Little Leaguer myself, we are very happy to be involved and proud that we can help the Davenport Little League improve the organization and efficiency of the registration process. We look forward to working to continuing the great relationship between the River Bandits and all the area little leagues."

Athletes from ages five to 12 are eligible to enroll to play in the league's three divisions, which include Coach Pitch, Minors and Majors. Registration is required even if the child has previously played. At least one parent or legal guardian must be present with proof of residence and an original or state-certified copy of the child's birth certificate, which will be returned at the registration. For more information, including a description of the boundaries, interested parties may visit the Davenport East Little League website at www.davenporteastll.com.
