Sioux City Bandits News Release

(February 2, 2007 - Sioux City, IA) The Sioux City Bandits of the United Indoor Football Association are pleased to announce six more players that will come to training camp on March 9th. This brings the total of announced signed players to thirteen.

The players are:

Cory Wirth (WR/RB, 6'3 250lbs) Cory comes to the Bandits for his second season after an injury plagued 2006 season. Cory will compete for wide receiver position in 2007. Wirth graduated from Morningside College in 2005 after a four-year career for the Mustangs. Wirth earned All-GPAC Honors his junior and senior years for the Mustangs. In college, he played full back and tight end. In his senior year, the Mustangs were ranked as high as 2nd in the NAIA rankings and made it to the semi-finals of the NAIA playoffs. Wirth was an integral part of a Mustangs' offense that led the nation in total yards. Coach Britt "Cory did not get much of a chance to play last year due to injuries. This season, I look for him to fill a wide receiver role for our football team. He is a hard nosed, tough football player that will do a great job for the Bandits."

Cody Butler (Kicker, 6' 200lbs) Cody, last season, kicked in a limited role for the Sioux Falls Storm and Spokane in the AF2. In 2005, Butler was the kicker for the Bandits. Cody graduated from the University of South Dakota in Vermillion and graduated in 2004 after a stellar career for the Coyotes. Coach Britt "A kicker is the second most important position on an indoor football team. If you have a good kicker, you can get points from anywhere on the field. We believe we have that with Cody Butler." Ron Eaton (LB, 5'11 225lbs) Ron came to the try-out camp in January as untested and inexperienced indoor football player. He impressed the coaching staff with his quickness and strength to earn an invitation back to training camp in March. Eaton was a rugby player which should say something about his toughness and work ethic. Coach Britt "We are excited to bring Ron to camp to see how he will perform against tested players. His strength and athletic ability was the reason to get him an invitation back in March."

Drew Hahn (LB, 6' 220lbs) Drew is another product of the Morningside Mustang football program of Coach Steve Ryan. Drew was a four-year player for the Mustangs, playing mostly the linebacker position. Hahn just completed his senior year for the Mustangs and was named the All-GPAC team and will graduate from Morningside this spring. Drew is a native of Cherokee, IA and played high school football for the Braves. Coach Britt "Drew is another of the quality players that we have been able to recruit from Morningside. Head Coach Steve Ryan has sent a number of players the Bandits way in the past two years. We expect Drew to compete for the linebacker and special teams positions for the Bandits."

Jose Laureano (QB/WR, 6'2 225lbs) Jose returns to the Bandits in 2007 after seeing limited playing time in 2006. Laureano has a wealth of professional playing experience with the CFL Ottawa Roughriders and the AF2 with the Tallahassee Thunder. Laureano is a native of Florida and moved to Sioux City last year with his family and now calls Siouxland home. He is a high school football coach in South Sioux City. Coach Britt "Laureano came to the try-out camp in great shape. He has put on 20 pounds since last year and is serious about earning a roster spot in 2007. Laureano is a great athlete and we expect him to compete for a position on the 2007 roster."

Steve Schmidt (OL/DL, 6'4 315lbs) Schmidt returns to the Bandits for his seventh season. The last few seasons, Steve has been the starting offensive tackle. This season, he will be competing for a spot on the defensive line. He will also be a backup offensive lineman. Schmidt is a graduate of the University of South Dakota in Vermillion and a native of White River, SD. Schmidt was a four-time All-American for the Coyotes in track & field. He is a year-round resident of Sioux City and works as a supervisor for Gutter Helmet. Coach Britt "Steve came to the try-out in unbelievable weight which shows that he has been working out since the end of last season. I am extremely pleased with his commitment to getting ready for the 2007 season."

Training Camp starts on March 9th a site to be determined. Bandits' Season Tickets are currently on sale thru the Tyson Events Center Box Office. Hours are 10:30-5:30 Monday-Friday, 10:30-1:00 on Saturdays. Season Tickets start at $65 for the eight-game home schedule. Bandits' first game is March 24 vs. Omaha Beef at the Tyson Events Center at 7:05 pm.
