Bananas Explode for 10 Runs in Rout of Sharks
June 27, 2016 - Coastal Plain League (Coastal Plain)
Wilmington Sharks News Release
It was a one sided contest the whole way through as Wilmington Sharks (14-10) could only muster one run in their 10-1 loss to the Savannah Bananas (12-9).
Savannah's offense looked unstoppable early as they scored at least two runs in four of the first five innings. By the end of the game, they had collected 15 hits and two home runs. Their offense went quiet near the end of the game, but since they had scored so much in the beginning, it didn't matter.
Meanwhile, the Sharks only score in the game came in the third inning, when Grant Koch (Arkansas) reached on an error and later scored on a groundout. The Sharks got a few more chances, but only had nine baserunners the entire game. One scored, one was caught stealing, one more was out in a double play and the remaining six were left stranded.
The win went to Beau Sulser (1-1). He threw seven innings, with five hits, one unearned run, one walk and three strikeouts. Hank Nichols (1-2) took the loss, pitching five innings, allowing nine runs, seven earned, on eleven hits, one walk and striking out five.
The Sharks continue a four game home stand tomorrow, hosting Peninsula on Taco Tuesday.
