Baltimore Mariners News Release

(Baltimore, MD) While the Baltimore Mariners have been busy travelling all over the city and surrounding counties spreading the word about the upcoming 2009 season, their latest advertising campaign did not even require them to leave the home office at 1st Mariner Arena in downtown Baltimore.

1st Mariner Arena played host to the PNC Tennis Classic on Friday, bringing thousands of dedicated Maryland sports fans to the front doors of the Baltimore Mariners' home field. While the fans gathered en masse to see tennis superstar Serena Williams square off against Elena Dementiva and the Baltimore Orioles, the Mariners took advantage of the opportunity to spread the word about their upcoming 2009 season.

The evening was not just about selling tickets to games. The PNC Tennis Classic and Charity Tennis Challenge have been making rounds since 1986, where over $4,000,000 has been raised for various children's charities, including the MD Special Olympics, and Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. The Mariners contributed to the cause with the auctioning of many Baltimore Mariners related items such as an official 2009 autographed game helmet, t-shirts, and season tickets. "It was a fantastic opportunity for the Mariners, not just to spread the word about the team, but to give back to the community and make a difference in people's lives" said Mariners' GM Greg Justice, speaking on the event.

The PNC Tennis Classic was just one of the events that Greg and his Mariners were involved in this weekend. Greg was also a featured guest on "The Fighting Ungers" radio program on WVIE AM1370, while further down the road the Director of Game Day Operations Jim Hopkins and team owner Alan Taylor were addressing the Council of Ravens Roosts. Hopkins has been busy this entire off-season, making his rounds and addressing some of Maryland's biggest football fans. "To be a success in this city, you need to get the backing of this city's largest football fan base." Hopkins said. "That is what we are doing right now. Chipping away at all of the Ravens Roosts, and honestly, the reaction and feedback from them is nothing short of amazing" he added.

The Baltimore Mariners home opener is tentatively scheduled for March 15th 2009 against the Harrisburg Stampede. The 2009 finalized schedule will be available soon.
