Kansas City Comets News Release
BALTIMORE, Md. (March 13, 2015) - The Missouri Comets lost their 21-game winning streak in game one of the Eastern Conference Championship after falling to the Baltimore Blast 6-4 (3-2 SPS) at the Royal Farms Arena less than 24 hours after defeating the Milwaukee Wave at home.
Head coach Vlatko Andonovski's team is now obligated to win games two and the 15-minute mini game in order to advance to the Ron Newman Cup final against the winner of the Las Vegas Legends and Monterrey Flash series.
With one goal and one assist, Baltimore's leader Tony Donatelli was named Man of the Match. In addition, this was the first time the Comets have been held to one goal in the first half since January 18th, 2014 against the Milwaukee Wave.
It took 12:51 minutes for the match to see its first tally when All-league Rookie Team defender Alain Matingou scored a shorthanded restart goal assisted by Bryan Perez to end the quarter 2-0.
Late in the second quarter, Adriano Dos Santos found the equalizer assisted by Jonatas Melo to end the first half with a 2-2 score.
Head coach Danny Kelly's squad struggled to retain the ball throughout the match. However, with less than four minutes left in the third stanza, Defender of the Year finalist Pat Healey found Donatelli who simply pushed the ball to the back of Danny Waltman's goal ending the quarter 4-2.
Early in the final quarter, the home team would extend the lead when Lucas Roque notched his first tally of the playoffs before John Sosa entered in as the sixth attacker for the remainder of the match.
At the 11:24 mark, Most Valuable Player nominee Leo Gibson headed the ball to the back of William Vanzela's goal to end the match with a final score of 6-4.
