Idaho Steelheads News Release
Boise, ID (10/24/12) - The Idaho Steelheads got goals from seven different players - including the first professional tallies from Austin Fyten and Austin Smith - to defeat the Ontario Reign Wednesday night, 7-2, in front of 2,721 fans at Boise's CenturyLink Arena.
Idaho (4-2) has now won four consecutive games, scoring 23 goals in those four contests.
The Steelheads drew first blood barely a minute into the contest when a Justin Dowling shot was blocked directly onto the stick of a streaking Kael Mouillierat. Mouillierat was able to one-time the deflection past Ontario's Chris Carrozzi at 1:03 of the first to give Idaho a quick lead. Ontario would answer quickly with two goals on scrambles in front of the Idaho net. First, it was Cameron Burt at 3:43 of the first, then Brady Calla at 5:54 to give the Reign a 2-1 lead.
Idaho evened things up when Gord Baldwin crept down into the left-hand circle to gather in a loose puck and fire it top-shelf over a diving Carrozzi, his second of the season, to tie the game at two at the 13:15 mark. The Steelheads would take the lead for good less than three minutes later when Austin Fyten's wrist shot beat Carrozzi on the glove side for his first pro marker.
Three goals in the second from the home team would all but put the game away. First, at 4:19, Justin Dowling's shot from the right-hand circle bounced off Patrick Cullity's leg and into the net for Cullity's first of the season. At 12:46, Austin Smith would cap off an excellent power-play shift with a goal-mouth tap-in, with assists from Jacob Cepis and Mathieu Tousignant to make it 5-2 in favor the Steelheads.
Then, at 16:55, Idaho got a break on the power play when Cepis's dump-in from the blue line caught an edge on the glass. It ricocheted awkwardly behind Ontario's Jean-Francois Berube (who replaced Carrozzi following the Smith goal), who was heading out of the crease to play the dump-in, and into the net for Idaho's sixth tally of the night.
Idaho would add a seventh goal in the third period when Justin Dowling beat Berube from the bottom of the left-hand circle for his third goal of the season at 7:12 of the final frame.
Josh Robinson remained perfect in net on the young season, winning his third consecutive start by stopping 27 of 29 Ontario shots. The Reign actually out-shot Idaho, 29-26. Idaho's power play was solid again Wednesday, converting two of five opportunities.
Dowing (1 goal, 2 assists), Cepis (1 goal, 2 assists), Mouillierat (goal, assist), Tousignant (2 assists) and Matt Case (two assists) all had multi-point nights for Idaho. Dowling is up to nine points (3 goals, 6 assists) in six games while Mouillierat has eight points (2 goals, 6 assists) in four so far this season for the Steelheads.
The same two teams will play again Friday night in Boise. Tickets are available by calling the CenturyLink Arena box office at 208.331.8497 or by going online at www.idahosteelheads.com
