Rockford IceHogs News Release
Rockford, Ill.-For the second straight night the Rockford IceHogs offense flashed its potential. On Saturday, the IceHogs toppled the arch-rival Quad City Mallards 7-2 in front of 4,864 at the Rockford MetroCentre. Also for a second straight night, Rockford tied a franchise record netting four power-play goals.
Three of the Hogs power-play markers came within a three-minute stretch in the first period. After Quad City winger Justin Chwedoruk was whistled for a five-minute charging major and a game misconduct for running Rockford goalie Frederic Cloutier, the Hogs capitalized three times. Winger Robin Big Snake began the scoring at 6:48 slapping a goal past Jason Tapp. Then, 50 seconds later, center Kevin Ulanski tallied his 12th goal of the season before winger Jesse Bennefield chased Tapp from the game with a power-play goal at 8:16.
Quad City made things interesting in the second period. Defenseman Andrei Lupandin blasted in his sixth goal of the season, beating Cloutier at 2:04. Then 10 minutes later, at 12:04, winger Don Parson scored his league leading 17th power-play goal and 26th overall of the season to cut the Hogs lead to 3-2.
The game was blown open in the third frame. Big Snake lit his second lamp of the night and eighth of the season at 2:08 of the power play making the score 4-2. Hot center Mike Doyle made the score 5-2 when he beat Mallards goalie Zach Sikich for his 10th goal of the season. Bennefield added his second of the night and team-leading 15th of the campaign before center Bryce Cockburn finished off Quad City at 12:38.
Cloutier finished the night with 39 saves to earn his 15th win of the season for the IceHogs. Tapp, who stopped just five of eight shots, was tagged with the loss while Sikich made 25 saves on 29 shots faced. For the second straight contest the Hogs went 4-for-8 on the advantage.
Next Home Game: Sunday, Jan. 21 vs. Bloomington PrairieThunder. Game time is set for 3:05 p.m. The Hogs renew acquaintances with Bloomington. Sunday is another Dollar Days with WXRX, 104.9-FM. Fans can pick up regular size hot dogs, soft drinks, select candy items and peanuts for just $1.
