Rockford IceHogs News Release
Hoffman Estates, Ill.- The second half of the 2006-07 campaign began for the Rockford IceHogs and the Hogs blew out the Chicago Hounds 8-2 at the Sears Centre. Rockford used a balanced scoring attack to earn its 21st win of the season. Eight different skaters registered multi-point games in the win.
Rockford opened the scoring in the first period by potting three straight goals. The Hogs netted a pair of goals 35 seconds apart to get things rolling. Rookie winger Kaleb Betts blasted home his 14th goal of the season at 6:16 before Nicolas Corbeil scored his team-leading 15th of the campaign at 6:51, knocking a marker past Marty Magers. Winger Jason Notermann later notched his second goal of the season when he flipped a rebound past Hounds goalie Brenden Cuthbert, in for Magers, at 11:42.
Chicago clawed its way back with two unanswered markers by Tim Plett. Plett tallied the first goal just before the first break at 19:34, his third goal of the season, sneaking the puck past Hogs goalie Frederic Cloutier in a scrum. Then, while short-handed, Plett banked in his second of the night off of the leg of Hogs winger Mike Doyle at 3:04 of the second period. Rockford got the goal back before the second intermission with Magers back in the game. Winger Jason Ralph set up Jesse Bennefield for his 14th lamp lighter of the campaign at 18:24.
The Hogs exploded in the third period to break the game open with three goals in the frame's first 3:07. Corbeil netted his second of the night on the power play at the 1-minute mark before winger Chaz Johnson deflected in a perfect feed from Robin Big Snake at 2:12. Betts then chased Magers from the game for a second time at 3:07 with his second marker of the night. Center Preston Mizzi finished the scoring and the Hounds when he beat Cuthbert at 15:53.
Cloutier made 28 saves to earn the win while Cuthbert was the tough-luck loser despite giving up just two goals. The Hogs power play went 1-for 5 while holding Chicago to 0-for-7. Rockford extended its unbeaten streak to five-straight (4-0-1).
