Lancaster JetHawks News Release

(LANCASTER, CA) - Bakersfield's lineup devoured Lancaster pitching as the Blaze collected 20 hits, including three home runs, in a 16-10 victory over the JetHawks at Clear Channel Stadium Saturday. Every batter in the Blaze lineup had at least one hit and six of the nine Bakersfield starters posted multi-hit games in the contest.

The JetHawks drew first blood when Brian Pellegrini socked a solo home run in the bottom of the first.

But Bakersfield immediately answered with nine runs off JetHawks starter Leandro Cespedes in the top of the second inning. Miguel Velazquez ripped a two-run triple and Mike Bianucci smacked a two-run home run, which chased Cespedes from the game after working just an inning and a 1/3.

Trailing 9-2, the JetHawks produced a big inning in the bottom of the fourth. Jay Austin hit an RBI single and Federico Hernandez crushed a two-run homer over the right field wall to cap a six-run frame, which reduced Bakersfield's lead to 9-8.

The Blaze immediately answered with five runs in the top of the fifth. Velazquez, Bianucci and Erik Morrison all homered in the inning, which extended Bakersfield's lead to 14-8 and effectively put the game out of reach for Lancaster.

Cespedes (2-4) took the loss for Lancaster after yielding five hits and nine earned runs. Carlos Pimentel (7-6) picked up the win for Bakersfield despite allowing 11 hits and nine runs, only three of which were earned, in five innings pitched. With the win, the Blaze improved to 24-12 in the second half and 53-53 overall. The JetHawks fell to 14-22 in the second half and 37-69 overall.

The JetHawks will meet Bakersfield in the series finale Sunday afternoon at Clear Channel Stadium. Lancaster will start right-hander Ross Seaton (5-10, 5.83 ERA). The Blaze are expected to counter with right-hander Kennil Gomez (4-7, 5.52 ERA).
